Ghost Towns

Ghost Towns

Ghosttown St. Elmo (39 km SW of  Buena Vista ) with 'tough' past was founded 1878 and had 2000 inhabitants.
Now only 8 persons are living there.
Mark Twain visited the town once.
On weekends the miners from all around came into town to drink and fight.
There are more than 700 ghosttowns in Colorado and a Ghosttown Museum.
We planned to visit nearby Handcock Ghosttown, but had to give up due to heavy snow on the road.
Same for Independence Ghosttown ; Independence Pass was still closed in may.
