Fossil Beds Colorado Florissant Fossil Beds Nat'l Monument
A primeval rain forest off the beaten path preserved by volcanic ash 35-40
million years ago.
We drove from Colorado Springs US 24 west through Ute Pass towards Lake George,
had a stop-over at Elven Miles Motel , had a great breakfast at Mountain Shadows Inn
and reached the National Monuments Gate 10 minutes prior to its opening..

We hiked on well-marked hiking trails in the Oligocene epoch and saw several
petrified redwoods.
Adrian shot with our new digital camera alpine plants and grasses.

It was so hot we both got a light sunburn.
