Picketwire Canyon Picketwire Canyon

This was a real and serious adventure which we almost didn't survive.
No joke. Picketwire Canyon is located deep in the Comanche Grassland in
southeast Colorado. Within the rock layers, the longest dinosaur track-way in
the world was discovered here. Website.
We knew that it is dangerous (rattlesnakes and spiders) and very hot.
Starting at 8 in the morning and having 8 bottles of water we thought that
this would be enough to make it through the canyon to the dinosaur tracks.
It wasn't enough. We made it to the old spanish  "Delores Mission" and then
had to give up.  The way back was extremly hot, very few shadows, running out
of water, almost breaking down. There wouldn't have been any help around.
Our next attempt will be with even more water and in a cooler season.
