Remote attendance to our classes
Who wouldn't want to save thousands in expenses for flight tickets, hotel accomodation , cab/taxi costs ?
That's why we are offering now a remote attendance to our bootcamps for up to 2 students.
(we've had recently a pilot and it worked out quite well)
How does it work
You register the same way as you would register for a physical presence, but you check the box for
remote attendance on the registration form.
If a "remote attendance"-slot is still available (right now we allow a maximum of 2 remote students per class
with a total maximum, physically present and remote, of 10)
we will let you know and mail you:
a) the class manual with the tasks
b) the VPN info (profile, username, password)
c) the Pod info
right after we have received payment. You provide us with a mail address.
We enable VPN access on the morning when the class commences and power on your workgroup.
During the class we do/should have Skype-contact with you.
We will have a Skype video call with you, but with a turned-off speaker. This way you hear and see everything the
instructor and the students say and discuss during the class.
Your questions and our answers are via Skype-chat.
Our instructors act the same way they would do with any student physically present:
a) they will check your configs and give you feedback via chat
b) they analyse the syslog- and snmp-output sent to our servers
c) they pass you the solution files
(unfortunately they cannot whip you, so here you have an advantage...)
You also have access to our FTP- and TFTP-servers for tools, docs and the configs of each student.
Any disadvantages ?
Well, if you book the 3-weeks-camp we are having a mocklab day during the 3rd week (usually on thursday).
The physically present student's keyboard input will be monitored in realtime via VNC by our instructor.
This we will not be able to do with a remote student, who might be thousands of miles away and probably
behind a firewall.
FAQ
What about if a student is in a different timezone ?
There is nothing we can do about this. Our classes usually start at 8 a.m. local time (or differently if the students
discussed this).
If you are not in the same timezone (i.e. class is in USA and you are
in Europe) you might have the convenience of going to work,
leave work a bit earlier and join the class in the European afternoon while we start in the morning.
On the other hand you can choose to remotely attend one of our classes in US or in Europe, whichever is closer to your
timezone.
Any class price difference ?
No, because the small amounts of money we save for food and drinks we spend mailing the manuals; plus
we have additional efforts and workload with the chatting to the remote students.
But you save a lot :
travel time, flight ticket, hotel accomodation, food in the evenings and on weekends, taxi/cab
